AWARDS AND HONORSSociety of Woman Geographers — Society of Woman Geographers Gold MedalEstablished in 1925, the Society of Woman Geographers (SWG) was the first organization of its kind to encourage woman pursuing geographical exploration and research. Early members included Amelia Earhart. The society has grow to include the disciplines of anthropology, geology, biology, archaeology, oceanography, and ecology. The prestigious SWG Gold Medal, given for lifetime achievements, is awarded every few years and has in the past been bestowed on women such as Mary Leakey and Jane Goodall.
